How to Detox Your Beauty Routine

Who doesn’t love to feel like their best selves, Inside and out?! I know I do! We are super lucky to have had some amazing brands in the last few years coming out with beauty, skincare and food that has more of the good and less of the nasties. It is amazing how far we have come but we do still have a long way to go. Detoxing your beauty routine is important but lets be honest, if you changed everything in your beauty routine over in one go, that would be quiet an expensive shopping trip and we would prefer to keep things more realistic and keep that anxiety to a bare minimum. Thank you! So we suggest to take it one step at a time and know that no one is perfect and you shouldn’t hold yourself to that standard. Change one product at a time or if you are feeling really motivated do a couple! I have been on this journey myself and I am still not there yet but have tried and tested myself so that you don’t have to.

Here are my top Products to swap. And here is why.

  1. Natural Deodarant The mainstream Deodorant that you have been using contains some not so great ingredients such as aluminium, parabens, pthalates and fragrance to name a few. Parabens & phthalates are known hormone disruptors and fragrance can irritate skin and flare up skin conditions. Our favourite swaps is The Rose scent by Noosa Basics.

  2. Perfume I couldn’t believe how many harmful chemicals are found in your everyday perfume. It is probably the biggest contributor out of any beauty product that you use to contain the most chemicals. There are over 3000 chemicals that fall under the fragrance category and therefore can present a range of concerns including triggering asthma, allergies, disrupting hormones etc. depending on what is included in the fragrance. Our favourite swap is any of the scents by Your Bliss Perfume.

  3. Toothpaste Toothpaste is one of those things that you have had the same brand since before you can even remember, that one that your mum used to buy or “gift” you in your Christmas stocking that you just go along for the ride with because “Hey, free toothpaste”. It goes in your mouth, twice a day, 365 days a year. You need to choose carefully and really pick a toothpaste that is good for you. There are so many ingredients in your regular toothpaste that are so unnecessary to have. Our Favourite swap is Eco store (You can get it from Coles or Woolies)

  4. Lip Balm Again, Lip balm is one of those things we use so frequently. It goes on our lips and we eat (not intentionally) a scary amount of that. We are what we eat, and I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be ingesting a bunch of parabens or petrolyum. Our favourite swaps for Lip balm are the “Frank Body” Lip balm

  5. Moisturiser One of my favourite swaps because what an absolute difference this has made to my skin. Coming from someone who has had horrible adult acne, scarring, redness, dryness. Switching to a natural alternative was one of the best things I ever did. I use both a natural moisturiser and serum and what a BANGING combo! Once you make the change you will not go back. Use products that are really hydrating and feeding your skin which as we know is the BIGGEST organ we have.
Our favourite swap is the Hero serum from GO TO + the GO TO moisturiser.

I hope this made it a little easier for you to make those decisions on the best way to start changing over and detoxing your beauty routine. I hope you love these swaps as much as I do.

All my Love,

Maddie xx
